Big Brother VS The Glass House

The Glass House's first show aired last night and I must say, there are many things just a like and many things that are very different.  It is obvious that the Glass House did rip-off Big Brother, but I am not sure how CBS can even complain about this because they have done it MANY times themselves.  The newest being Dogs in the City which is almost exactly like The Dog Whisperer and lets not forget Julie Chen's own show, The Talk!  That is a complete rip-off of The View down to the "tag line" show ending, "take a little time to enjoy the view", "take the time to have the talk".  So I think CBS is very guilty of doing the very same thing!

Now down to the brass tax.  For the house itself, I must admit that the Glass House is really much nicer than the Big Brother house.  They have sunk a lot of money into this house and made it very modern with really cool gadgets like the way they enter and exit through the floor on the little dot elevators.  Pretty cool!  Also, their mic necklaces are neat as well.  They wear a simple necklace that works as a microphone, instead of Big Brother having them wear a long wired mic that has to be attached to clothing and is always causing noise issues and problems.

Now onto the contestants.   The Glass house only has one "big" personality in the house and he is so over the top obnoxious, he's falling flat.  Each person got to ask America a question and we vote on the answers.  Alex asked America if he should be the most evil villain of all time and of course we all voted "yes", so this guy takes it upon himself to go around the house doing nothing but ticking everyone off by putting them all down.  Telling the girls they are all fat and calling one a stripper and making fun of the guys as well.  It was as if, he was trying too hard and ended up looking like a wanna be Evil Dick or Dr Will. But on the flip side of that, america gets to vote on if he stays or goes and like I said, he is the only "big" personality in the house, so I have no doubt that America will vote to keep him, so his plan maybe working for now.  I just don't understand how the others in the house are not seeing right through his bad acting?  They should absolutely know what he's doing and why he's doing it and call him out on it!  Instead they all literally think he's just the biggest douchebag jerk they have ever met and run away crying because he hurt their feelings. Suck it up girls, you can't agree to be on a show like this and not expect antics like this!

I like the fact that the Glass House contestants are not all "pretty young people" but they are missing one thing that has always made Big Brother a huge hit and that is the personalities.  These guys are all pretty bland so far.  There is a self-proclaimed nympho who has been trying to get the girls to "spank" her, but that's about it.  These guys have got to liven that place up and come to life a bit more! Oh and how about Jacob? I thought it was funny being the first week of the first season ever and they already had someone quit!  What does that tell ya right there?

One of the things America got to vote on was what type of party they should have and were given the choice of a pool party which is what America voted for.  I thought this was too funny though because they have NO pool!  They do have a hot tub that fits about 8 of them, but there were 14 of them, so how sad was that pool party?

Now onto live feeds, which are totally different for both shows.  The Glass House only has feeds for 4 hours after the show on Monday nights and one hour a day Tues - Thurs and that's it!  Big Brother has 24/7 feeds that are only blocked a few hours twice a week and a few minutes here and there depending if the houseguests are doing something that could infringe on copyright charges for CBS.  Also, with the Glass House the few feeds you do get are completely interactive with doing pre-planned activities that viewers are voting on as you go, for instance they are all in the backyard playing dodge ball and we vote on if we want them to use stuffed animals or kush balls to throw at each other.  So there is absolutely NO game-play or personal interactions between them to be watched during their feeds.  Yet with Big Brother, that is all it is.  We are like the fly on the wall and get to see everything corresponding between each other and listen in on all the game-play going on.

The Glass house competition was pathetic compared to Big Brother competitions.  Big Brother always has massive intricately built and very difficult competitions, whereas the Glass house's comp was a huge disappointment and only lasted a few minutes.  Also, I heard that the Glass House's contestants all leave the house and go into sequester every week-end.  I cannot even understand what that is for or why?  I am totally stumped on that one!

I truly hope that Big Brother will pull out all the stops and obliterate the Glass House's ratings!  Big Brother has a HUGE following and has for 13 seasons now and I doubt very seriously that many of them will "change" now.  I don't even see many of them taking the time away from Big Brother to catch the pathetic one hour show per week or the one hour per day of feeds. I seriously could care less about the things I have seen on the Glass House feeds, such as 30 minutes listening to what everyone was doing 5 years ago. I mean really, WHO CARES?  And Monday night at 10 PM is not really that good of a TV time slot and Big Brother has Wed. @ 8PM, Thurs. @ 9PM and Sun. @ 8PM, which are ALL prime time slots three times a week!

I just do not see the Glass House as being much of a competition for Big Brother and I truly believe that as soon as Big Brother begins, the ratings for the Glass House will plummet!

  3. I watched the Glass House just now, on ABC.com. I truly did not even watch the whole thing. I kept flipping to another screen. To me, the only nice thing about it was the house (which is pretty cool), and the fact that the sound was good. Other than that, I could really care less about the contestants! Great blog, Jules!

  5. Awesome Jules, you nailed it! I'll be shocked if the Glass House gets picked up for another season, and I know neither of us will be tearing ourselves away from BB live feeds to watch staged feeds for an hour a day (Maybe we can trick ZZ's PA). Bring on Big Brother!!!
